Dosimetry in HDR brachytherapy with Fricke-gel layers and Fricke-gel catheters

چکیده
Fricke-gel layer dosimeters (FGLD) and Fricke gel dosimetric catheters (FGDC) have been designed and tested with the aim of enquiring their suitability for HDR Ir brachytherapy source control and for in-vivo dose verification during treatment. Anisotropy function measurements have been carried out with FGLDs in which a thin plastic tube has been placed in for the Ir source insertion. FGDCs are constituted by plastic tubes (3 mm of external diameter and 13 cm of length) filled with the dosimeter-gel. Absorbed dose images and profiles were attained by means of optical analysis. Dedicated software has been developed both for achieving anisotropy function values and for obtaining reliable results in visible light absorbance measurements across the thin cylindrical dosimeters. Preparation and analysis procedures have been optimised. The results confirm that the proposed methods are very promising for HDR brachytherapy dosimetry.

A Feasibility Study of Fricke Dosimetry as an Absorbed Dose to Water Standard for 192Ir HDR Sources
High dose rate brachytherapy (HDR) using 192Ir sources is well accepted as an important treatment option and thus requires an accurate dosimetry standard. However, a dosimetry standard for the direct measurement of the absolute dose to water for this particular source type is currently not available. An improved standard for the absorbed dose to water based on Fricke dosimetry of HDR 192Ir brac...

Introduction: Transfusion of irradiated blood is recommended by the guidelines for cardiosurgery, cancer surgery, severe trauma and congenital immune deficient recipients. To prevent post- transfusion graft-versus-host disease (PT-GVHD), blood cells may be irradiated by gamma rays. The absorbed dose range for blood irradiation is typically 15 to 50 Gy. As the assurance that blo...

Introduction: The purpose of this work was to study the ability of MRI normoxic polymer gel dosimetry for evaluating the dose distribution in HDR brachytherapy of esophagial cancer at Imam Reza brachytherapy center (Mashhad, Iran). Materials and Methods: Initially, 2liters of normoxic gel (MAGIC) was fabricated and then poured into 12 calibration test tubes and placed in a perspex walled phanto...
متن کاملReview of Fricke gel dosimeters
The innovation of adding a gel matrix to the traditional Fricke dosimeter to stabilize geometric information established the field of gel dosimetry for radiation therapy. A discussion of Fricke gels provides an overview of the issues that determine the dose response of all gel dosimeters in general. In this paper we review some of the features of Fricke systems to illustrate these issues and, i...
متن کامل3D MRI gel dosimetry based on image intensity (A new approach)
Background: Since 1984 MRI gel dosimetry has been introduced as a potential technique for 3D dosimetry. Most of the studies have measured R1 (1/T1) or R2 (1/T2) properties of the gel depending on the gel type. We have studied image intensity change in the Fricke gel by different MRI protocols. Materials and Methods: Gel Dosimeters contain 0.4 mM ferrous sulphate, 1 mM NaCl, 50 mM H2SO4 and 1% b...
